IBEW Local 1517 at a Glance

What we Do

We are a small rural local but we have a mighty task. Situated in Alliance Nebraska and covering outlying points in Wyoming and Colorado we are tasked with repairing and maintaining a substantial portion of the largest fleet of locomotives of any Class 1 Railroad. BNSF Railway has a tremendous presence in the Powder River Basin and provides logistics to deliver enough low sulfur coal to generate roughly 10 percent of the electricity produced in the United States of America.

union responsibility

As an IBEW local we have a continuing responsibility to provide our members with the respect and dignity they deserve in the workplace. We strive to adhere to the IBEW Constitution, our 1983 National Agreement, Local Bylaws, and the safety plan provided by the Carrier.

“There is a direct relationship between the ballot box and the bread box, and what the union fights for and wins at the bargaining table can be taken away in the legislative halls”.

Walter Reuther, 4th President of the United Automobile Workers
